Age Of Reason

Band history according to Wild Bill Dunham:

Originally from Mips Computer Systems, joined before the IPO in 1989. Was absorbed by SGI in 1992 and spent the next 7 years working on the coolest Graphics machines on the F#$%ing planet. Started playing with Doug "Cradle Robber" Yanagawa in the MIPS band in 1990, back when the lineup included Chris Paul ("GreasBall" if you say his name right), Dave "Wavy Davy" DiSabitano on bass, and Kevin "Kmart" Martin sharing the drumming duties with Doug. We joined up with remnants of Mark "The Godfather" Roberts, Grant "Jerry" Gouldon, and Jeff "Zippy" Brzycki's band when creative differences blew the band apart after the 1992 Band Showcase at Shoreline Amphitheatre. Incidentally, that legendary showcase has become known as the Woodstock of the early nineties, certainly there were as many substances being passed around backstage as during the original namesake.

Age of Reason started in earnest after Mark recuperated from landing flat on his back falling from high on the drum riser (he was momentarily awe-struck by tone of the note that Shelly "Camel Toes" Buhagiar, the then lead singer, was bellowing). We struggled for quite a while practicing in shared rooms in light industrial complexes in Mt. View and Sunnyvale, one of which was eventually raided by IRS and bolted shut with all the band's equipment still inside. We still have never heard from Chip "The Felon" Matheney since the raid. The signature gig of this era was the High School homecoming party in Santa Cruz, a surreal affair played in misty rain, complete with bonfire and dancing cheerleaders. Unfortunately the gig was cut short when a deadly Mosh pit started to form during the heavy metal Anthem EvenFlow, and it took the band several years to regain the glory of that moment.

Shortly after regaining our equipment from the IRS raid, the band went through another transition, as Scott "Tighy" Crane and Sarah "Lungs" Prieto departed over what has become know as the "Burrito incident", in reality a continuing series of incidents instigated by the guitarist Bill "Gasmaster" Dunham. The resilient AoR regrouped with a series of female lead singers who came and went as often as drummers in Spinal tap. It was often speculated but never proven that the departures were also related to dietary habits of Bill.

Against her better judgement, Amy joined the band and Age of Reason went through several years of stability. During this era there were several great gigs, including the annual Halloween party appearance at Vic "MiniMe" Alessi's residence in Scotts Valley.

For many years, AOR lived and rocked. And lo, members came and went. And then a guitar player ran across a drummer through a matrix of transmorgificational experiences, and it was good. The time was ripe for something new. Thus between a lazy afternoon of revelry and mutual love of music, the latest incarnation was formed. Long live Rock. AOR is now 6 members strong, still trying to regain lost glory of youth and Rock and Roll.
